Human Instincts Program:

Enhancing leadership & management capability for managing change

Homo sapiens first emerged around 200,000 years ago, yet it’s only around 250 years ago that we started to work in factories and offices. Our innate instincts that ensured our survival are alive and well in today’s organisation and they drive your and others’ behaviour. So it is little wonder that change and transformations in major organisations are fraught with difficulty and often fail if instincts are not taken into consideration.

The Human Instincts approach makes explicit the ten behavioural instincts of humans. Up until now these instincts have been left as implicit and therefore not applied in organisational planning and execution. The approach assists leaders to proactively plan transformations, allowing them to predict how employees will react to change and help them avoid the predictable mistakes if instincts are ignored.

An insightful presentation facilitated by our partner Andrew O’Keeffe who has a Bachelor of Economics majoring in Economics and Industrial Relation. He has extensive experience as a Senior Human Resources practitioner with organisations including IBM, Optus, Sinclair Knight Merz, and Hewitt Associates and is involved in leadership development at Mt Eliza Centre for Executive Education. Andrew is the author of ‘The Boss’, a best selling novel based on true stories about bosses.
